A friend of mine sent me a link to Derek Pye Photography, a faux wedding photographer based in England. It's a funny site but it is also quite telling in so many ways of the expectations brides & grooms these days have of their photographer and the quality of the service often provided to them.
“Derek” has a side-kick or assistant named “Muktar” who is in training. Apparently Derek offers a Muktar Special, a package where brides and grooms need only to send in their head shots. Muktar, skilled in the art of Photoshop will cleverly juxtapose you and your spouse in a variety of different contexts, eliminating the need for a photographer to be actually present at your wedding!
Some photographers choose to work with an assistant. Some photograph the entire event solo. Regardless of your wedding plans you should never have anyone cut and paste your heads (or any other body parts) onto scenes. That's a shortcut to disaster. If you think your wedding party is so large that a photographer would likely need an assistant, opt in for that added expense.
In any event, you should trust your wedding photography to a proven professional who is passionate about his art, definitely comfortable working with people and will not under any circumstance cut corners on your special day.
